..that none should perish

Mat 6:1 "Watch out! Don't do your good deeds publicly, to be admired by others, for you will lose the reward from your Father in heaven.
Mat 6:2 When you give to someone in need, don't do as the hypocrites do—blowing trumpets in the synagogues and streets to call attention to their acts of charity! I tell you the truth, they have received all the reward they will ever get.
Mat 6:3 But when you give to someone in need, don't let your left hand know what your right hand is doing.
Mat 6:4 Give your gifts in private, and your Father, who sees everything, will reward you.
Mat 6:5 "When you pray, don't be like the hypocrites who love to pray publicly on street corners and in the synagogues where everyone can see them. I tell you the truth, that is all the reward they will ever get.

Mat 5:16 In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.
Mat 5:17 "Don't misunderstand why I have come. I did not come to abolish the law of Moses or the writings of the prophets. No, I came to accomplish their purpose.
Mat 5:18 I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not even the smallest detail of God's law will disappear until its purpose is achieved.

God's purpose:
that none should perish
